1.Check Your Car Fluids – It’s Easy and Keeps Your Car Happy!
Your car needs liquids (we call them “fluids”) to stay healthy – just like you need water! Here are the 4 most important ones and how to check them:
- Windshield Washer Fluid (the blue one)
- Job: Cleans your front window
- How to check: Pull the washer lever (the one for wipers). → Strong spray = good! → Weak or nothing = fill it up (very easy, costs almost nothing).
- Engine Oil (usually black or brown)
- Job: Stops engine parts from rubbing and breaking
- How to check (do it every 2–4 weeks):
- Coolant / Antifreeze (often pink, green, or orange)
- Job: Keeps engine cool in summer and stops freezing in winter
- How to check (once a month): Look at the plastic tank that says “coolant”. Liquid should be between “LOW” and “FULL” lines.
- Never open the radiator cap when the engine is hot – it can burn you badly!
- Brake Fluid (small tank near the firewall)
- Job: Helps you stop the car!
- How to check: Just look – it should be near the “FULL” line. → If it’s very low, go to a mechanic fast – brakes are super important!

2.Check Your Car Lights – Takes Only 1 Minute!
“See and Be Seen” = Stay Safe!
Your lights are super important. They help YOU see the road… and help OTHER drivers see YOU. A broken light can cause accidents or get you a ticket!
Here’s the super-easy way to check ALL your lights every day:
- Headlights (so you can see at night)
- Turn on your normal headlights.
- Get out and look → Both front lights bright? Good!
- Switch to high beams → They get brighter? Perfect!
- Tail Lights (so cars behind see you)
- Headlights ON → Walk to the back.
- Both red lights glowing? Yes = good!
- Turn Signals (to show left or right)
- Turn on LEFT signal → Front + back left lights blinking?
- Turn on RIGHT signal → Front + back right lights blinking?
- Listen inside: If the “click-click” sound is super fast, one bulb is dead!
- Brake Lights (the most important for stopping safely)
Easy ways to check:
- Ask someone to watch while you press the brake pedal (best way), OR
- Park in front of a wall or window, press brake, look in your mirror → See 3 red lights? Great!
- Hazard Lights (emergency flashers)
- Press the hazard button (usually a red triangle).
- All 4 turn signals should flash together.
Quick 60-Second Checklist
| Light | How to check | All working? |
|---|---|---|
| Headlights | Look at front | □ Yes □ No |
| Tail lights | Look at back | □ Yes □ No |
| Left signal | Front + back left blinking | □ Yes □ No |
| Right signal | Front + back right blinking | □ Yes □ No |
